My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.comBlogger784125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-80039534152446087962024-02-28T20:00:00.001-05:002024-02-28T20:00:23.030-05:00Another Surgery! It’s been a rough recovery since June. There have been many highs and lows. One being Wyatt having a constant pain about a level 3. Then we noticed a rod “sticking” out from his back. Apparently a rod got unhooked from some hardware and it needs to be repaired. The surgery team will be meeting this week to discuss the approach to spinal fusion 2.0 to happen over Spring Break. Besides, this medical setback- Wyatt is working hard in school and enjoying his hobbies and interests. Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-65673007948626685072023-09-05T09:10:00.001-04:002023-09-05T09:10:31.763-04:00Wyatt is back and ready! Wyatt came home from the hospital on Friday and had a low key Labor Day weekend of rest to gear up for school! His neck hurts but hopefully that will subside soon. The day Wyatt got home, each kid could pick something- Chloe picked an extreme milkshake and Wyatt picked gambling. Lol. My hope is that we can put all this medical stuff behind us and that Wyatt will have a fun sophomore year! <div><br></div><div><img id="id_7ede_2c96_4b8a_b7f2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wdBJQiYwQv9XnWNcqvQpuNBQuD-CNCFceeyi26xK2pYISqtB9vxHvkwSZeo6x6uBBYLhAEPw3DfmOf-1TGgh3kap8kRg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_a917_b4c5_d60c_cede" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xNBg3oTtG-utd7WzlVtfecT8Nl0NgbALoZERJqyEXm16QuxQ5lNNhwTX1b1ZyuzgDLDzSZnle3tCvxUSzlX9Cg9pg_Tg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_169b_74e4_eba2_cd7d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wPBaExOFZ4B1rZrb910yoeVZ3pjqhZL_IgN_yqUsTSKHOx3-JQr-T9AWKkkVgjAiUnLW-CJwr_ABDCDALCoevVUXNq" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_de38_1c46_47c7_9931" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wNzmMi61Xi4vbDiClxMVs0Mu-59e2Wa899L7FNaESA9pr-fRqVsTCNy4ZBQLWIeOg9IO_YhzX-Vv9caUiXEL8MVmjRyg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_fd77_75b3_6685_e460" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zhohogSTy-pM7sR1QuNHevPBf4eLXNpKd9gDyL6685anm9qZPsjQtixaWUhT-OBkJdOn1QxHaLH6EGqsrtkpCrHoS4KQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-53999557677805269262023-08-31T13:03:00.002-04:002023-08-31T13:14:09.366-04:00Professional photos of Wyatt's halo traction- June 2023<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In June while Wyatt was on halo traction for his spinal fusion surgery, the hospital child life department asked if a professional photographer could take Wyatt's pictures for PR purposes. We learned that the cultures were clear and there is not an infection, so surgery was moved to this morning. It’s was successful but not without a few detours. The shunt placement tubing plan was to drain to the abdomen, so general surgery was called in to the OR to laparoscopically look for the best placement away from scar tissue so this issue does not happen again. They made two small incisions on his abdomen. Unfortunately, there was not a good spot. So Plan B came into effect! The tubing is now going through an artery through to his heart- VA shunt. Not the best case scenario but it’s common and very effective and we had no choice. Wyatt is in good spirits and in minimal pain. As soon as he woke up in recovery, he knew hospital bingo was at 2:30 on Wednesdays and wanted to make sure we were in his room to play. He won twice! He is bummed that a portion of his head was shaved. He was growing his hair that was previously shaved in June out by the time school started but we are back to square one again! That’s ok though. We will probably be in the hospital until Friday or Saturday. Wyatt had an ultrasound of the abdomen to see if there is any remaining fluid and it’s all gone! I also requested an orthopedic consult to check his back while we are here. This evening he enjoyed a Starbucks coffee that just opened in the hospital lobby and sat by the Koi pond. So far cultures look good. <div> <img id="id_5ff4_d587_f3e0_875a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zJAJaaZ32CIRfFRZK8lACItAI7kjuaJM4y-s0Kj54TCTnamzsI5Spsmra7ycIAweQ0qEI669m-V4GAziDyKKSRqx5J" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-67859182273253038552023-08-27T13:08:00.001-04:002023-08-27T13:08:49.358-04:00There’s no laying around when I’m on duty! Cultures are clear so far, and everything is going well. Surgery tentatively scheduled for Thursday or Friday and then home over day weekend. Wyatt has been having abdominal pain all summer long since surgery. We attributed it to his incision on his abdomen but on Saturday, we learned that was not the case. The good news is that we are addressing the issue and he feels better already! On Saturday, Wyatt was in extreme, extreme pain. It broke my heart. I thought to myself, that’s enough of just giving pain meds- we need to find the underlying issue!! Off to the pediatric ER at Hopkins. They were awesome- took him right away and did every test - x ray, ultrasound, MRI. They discovered a pseudo cyst- cerebrospinal fluid from his shunt pooling in his abdomen. It has been building up since mid June. His body is not absorbing it. He was admitted about 1:00 am and had emergency surgery at 9:45am on Saturday. We are fortunate to have a hospital close by with a full neurosurgical team 24/7. The surgeon pulled 200 ml of CSF from his abdomen and placed an external drain until all the CSF cultures from his brain and abdomen come back in five days. After five days, he will have a more extensive surgery, placing the tubing back inside his body and locating a spot that will absorb the fluid. For now we just sit and wait in the hospital for about a week before the next surgery. We are told about two weeks in the hospital. This all took us by surprise! The timing overlaps with the start of his sophomore year but he will persevere. We are happy to finally figure out what’s going on. <div><br></div><div>Wyatt is feeling better already in just a few hours after surgery. Surgery on a weekend is vastly different than surgery on a weekday. The waiting room and recovery room was completely empty. Hopefully after this, Wyatt will be even stronger than before. Why not end the school year and start the school year at John’s Hopkins???? Even on the same floor and same room. <div><br></div><div><img id="id_c720_b9e1_93d6_8e6b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zX1yat5D1CI8lLbQ1MFomGcUf3oRfuvPHchajMQCwk99rZS8r_L7LOjdQCFqieGG-98q6BqOMSmakmCs-UKqcLMnS5" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>After surgery <br><img id="id_cb76_e8b_1b0b_4205" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yqBeQmM08hnHnqMOdMFKMuUBKqGQqQPGLrLUBfss-8IiPB_DfKHyhlYWapK2XR-clcBBrpHzlLHlaxTuk4FvmyoI87" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>The drain- the clear liquid is CSF- cerebral spinal fluid<br><img id="id_e2c8_aada_b1a9_15c1" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yiMBucpI-WiWN2DhQX8as-_uT0RWhUySPSCJOqEv911BAXpkY9I-6ssTmmWUyLspe3vJB95bV33CEB5cmBh6tUdlBFig" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Everything is EMPTY!!!<br><img id="id_62f3_b0b1_6ff0_696d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yOndnOvwwLTQ12KBi1iWzgCTj-Q8Pe-AGoEMwXp_JfsbD8BtsVzZRtSVJd6fEpmpLzC32BOBoZnhnPd280H9ftfuNocA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-58546086118554977782023-08-23T20:38:00.001-04:002023-08-23T20:41:41.271-04:00He’s BACK🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉Wyatt has made immense progress and is ready for school! He is working hard doing five therapies a week- physical and occupational. He is determined, has a strong work ethic and is focused on getting stronger. Even though it’s a year-long recovery, we are so proud of the strides he has made since June and his positive attitude. We recently came back from a beach trip and he was walking ahead of us on the boardwalk! His pain is managed through medication as needed and he is working on advocating for himself, taking breaks as needed. We are looking forward to him just being a teen, enjoying sophomore year. There are no foreseeable surgeries, which is a first in many many years. It’s about time he enjoys life and worries less!! <div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_6fd7_29cb_6e2f_f39e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xvzzQIW-N-3Hj_sUmGCkK7euPcHQAsTIZYCbkjCjzV-nfPg0f2lrvLX9csHDqqWWNavygd76yUBR0OvmuL3DxL8RJB" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6470_9cf1_1629_9ddf" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yDFFg4g-C2qQ5BoqX67_ltFtxzqQOkmkGalqWPYMiilkdLfJdaXfcKg9wb_htNGaEYmkNr4p4l7IEX_ECCVljea_iSjQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_de6b_7586_b2df_f4d2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xdqLUM3RRlcE1n6F6etQ2GsvrV2BhLYma3y0eEhdAU3qIddDnTgUeOuaELTn5Ru6MIGFdWo8dEJLqfeRFdsGa2DZsVmQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_4c2a_a07e_ff11_7a6d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zf8ibzQsk5-VgdyPnXWhkG6f_0mkO4Zi36XwP2DU4ecgQgaN7bB1VgXnrvxT-68TifKT5Mi4LJ_iq4u6cN6BbqyFzA8w" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_9519_e746_5c31_5d02" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zgGGjwtPzUs9KMS1bstP7LyRBTIGM00LQY6FMAalydKVc6312sF_WpS8bKGRWH69G1wiNLZhNhqznPcH1TZX9WqkHq" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6ca0_ee94_fde8_202a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wCRFB8QhDs6vHfo26dz6y7EQQXc1T_zs_j7Hiiua01oN0SykIKmZecWwkEUYxmionuYoLbcHmRE1HFjM6VQkNzrOoxmQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_aa0d_70b7_7e46_4f9b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-w6xK3IJcHWy8qHfxRzEVEPlU_4ktV2LA4hLpNYm8WP2_3SGaiwOGjr__M6Q7xXknSKpq8J5qNwvs__P24dGoUpZtyh" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-7958100835528021242023-08-01T15:11:00.001-04:002023-08-01T15:11:58.777-04:00Progressing!Wyatt had his six week follow up surgery appointment and X-ray. Things are looking good. He is complaining less about pain and stomach aches. He still gets a little dizzy and uses the wheel chair if he is walking long distances but he is walking more and acting more like himself! He walked up the steps to the Calvert Hall stadium to the top with his friends yesterday which was awesome! Today he is at Knobles Amusement Park playing carnival games- his fav!!! Now he has to buckle down and do his summer homework- reading two books before school begins at the end of the month. <div><br></div><div>Knobles Anusement Park</div><div><img id="id_a118_9019_b3d2_2233" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wswZ8E_4mvD57k6ZLvnDQqPG1XXkxqEQ9C87Z0TKycDtx9a5M7rV9a0FGZNDPkcaTKmBy1plW0uw8A_ZwQ4ehVnoV7qQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_e49e_acf3_fe37_9425" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yiz7FJ1Pr3XsJDOtkMqEe4G2okMld4h4OoTXs2wMfVl00lItKdE04wZVspzM49WpX-4NC3xgMWQcGCWF6EotXz-vKecg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Top of the Stadium!<br><img id="id_d78f_5cc0_742c_23c7" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wZV9RY-hja2uy_SG5Tbigk9rsXm2ZRn4FBq2y-QmPYZMbg6M5uFxweblloKjMmBAhg5BALv06_TWmSlsUbxUZhoNXu" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Baking six cakes for the 4-H Cake Auction<br><img id="id_b37a_43b8_8c55_206d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wkFkVgLz0x_TGeO_ZDHbTPUbFAezcZc9ZkM8BQdnhzOxEOXxwQQmYswKiQ9J24CxtIZfGsHtwppptE2DP9NsdDo6xN" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_da36_c3ac_3608_45fa" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-w0FFA1b92jJ-pkcTFsn2DWV12-0_36SAN5eiaYBHXNA6v8w22mH0Yo98iGvhnZyu5GY-H9BjQAIoH520YCT_NQKDsxcA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">Follow Ip appointment 6 weeks after surgery- before and after <br></span><br><img id="id_7b2b_fa5e_28d7_3fb2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zYrb5eATkosf-hVrXmLL7af8vLJhvLGFQUdY9ckLJerHSxzRTwYFqciz1I7MVj3pysRWHy2Z0OiJe6NHXOqHl0zplPgQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_3a19_cb54_befb_def0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yNaGxT5arD4Y9rwPIFhOQVThKE40Rw7-BkKpQRMvo7_XXBNb2hEnijtQKP3xOfGrsKco-jQPu9l2ulPgboUgdK9iwq" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">Physical Therapy three times a week<br></span><br><img id="id_e92e_e7ab_4f92_7bc4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zjD2wDfZddFz3K-dZ3Ku1FzA3wtT1lCtIRzgEbzeFTgiV5NFJEmObKYZVDMt4d0ISq-2KsSwvXnLEdFakSMmbzSrUM" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-73058694758789752252023-07-21T12:39:00.001-04:002023-07-21T13:56:13.723-04:00UpdatesWyatt is getting stronger, walking longer distances independently and less and less pain meds. Our follow up appointment is this Monday so we will find out more information. He is going to OT and PT a total of 5 days a week. This week in PT, we added using his book bag to gear up for the school year. It’s light now but overtime, we will add more books to simulate reality and work on balance. <div><br></div><div><img id="id_2b46_a687_a4f0_ea64" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xKjPF0yrpGy0STKMGiJD2i2G71mvH6p49wQAKpagFmVterewC5zMDXwJMk6zxSJpbKX1EKCM3R_wZOp9ZeeBYWEJPP" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">Book bag practice <br></span><br><img id="id_eddc_7353_283f_4105" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wXbDZYVJtdoC3vqrIQxBMWB8DzDw12rNjh0NbX38n3bFYPxwe7mRgvXpFy3uC8jWE-37as5avDIjIZIDPdPLPSeVf4gA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_98eb_10ce_dd40_9021" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yDjpjeZz7dsF8AKdW8mLPo9kSX4lYI46tPIs_TdJju5oD4Zu8ZRhasg2Fy113YH4_7nKgPx7pSyNEU8jkURf0LuNKXUw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 359px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_c006_684b_3dda_dc2a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-z7WSoOrIPivWLibFmrq5-EelcZYvlZjjkB8u-yvVCzUoCWvjKqZlaP_PBa_Q8k5Pa6Kv5j0Q3UNIi03LafxI8IYc9t" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>More carnivals and more prizes 😂<br><img id="id_c2a3_dae_c09e_f36" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zDNuGaVgLm3lRVTvE7IfVQkc1K0X6paohVNTCtwFH3M5qpye8LNvqs0Y5S_qEYYxoripngtFz0HpXZN721e8yR5l8brg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>Wyatt’s candy machine is doing well at the new location. He did ask me to help him advertise for new locations, which is why I am posting here. He is looking to place one more three head candy machine at any business in the Baltimore, Carroll, Harford region. Wyatt will restock with fresh candy and monitor the machine. Here’s a pic of him placing this brand new machine at a business today. He has another one just like this waiting for a home. Thank you! <img id="id_87ba_170_9e86_d289" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-ypwOea1LY0oG8SHuRE7OnHfYNJg-Bbqywf-H_-3o-qZxsO1JVRoTX_uKv9NHvQt-SdrsRUA7o3IzgSQmKF88G6ro-RKw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><div><img id="id_4681_a34e_7391_4deb" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yMX7d3mzjT8ZS-Vy1rsF6PQBr0yDcJFWYN3zLo_fCdmM3Fz6ijPwTDGkrogeg3sGLqkPflFfNPQ-usqDBdhYnIthlS" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_43ed_d7c1_844e_4ee0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yo72FGWMXEj4aTCIAqPGxCmYJq0FQB9a2IKZRywI9vaop1QkboWr5yQ9ZQeFLWtAd-2kcrkEy5-0MLe_3jG3BeoW_d" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-47242589031449745162023-07-14T08:25:00.001-04:002023-07-14T08:29:35.233-04:00Making Progress!Wyatt is regularly going to PT and OT and we are trying to get him out and about to do normal activities. Tylenol is given less and less, except bedtime. In order for him to sleep comfortably, he gets Tylenol at bedtime and then Ibuprofen at 3:00am. He is walking more confidently and a little longer distances. He does still maintain a pain level of 2 or 3 and gets a little dizzy. His stomach hurts after eating and consequently has lost weight. In other news, he secured a location and he purchased a new candy vending machine for his business. He went swimming and took the scooter around BJ’s. Slowly, he is making progress. <img id="id_5d41_534c_692c_dd38" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xPuxuRXt23P7nE3vkrc7xkloRjqAMLsX39bXPFXDqP2mFMVP6K3ViO0uvO6iEetWY4JLFRc-DZj8EY8DGWHL_LoMi4Pg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_5f8c_2f76_fc44_fb8a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yLzF1lAXgtLgGnrvJerigNsstn8v-FnjY2rOxZUIVnusJR3ic20kI3sXlOJ8TxEN0jYk9Ta-f3bxLC1RnCe8X6lyeUvA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_c6a5_dd0a_a84c_2c26" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wM0BwzzF0hg0n0YUUf2_ES5ywXrQ1KEp9bXQdUyPFvn1PP2fOAOZXZ1cqN8AR1Pz3UeoYNDxVo2CP5rYM3SV6BaMyu_g" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_406a_43a4_3e21_c9ee" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xFh87DQ91E6QG8-mTw0J3dGPuN6T7-nXnWVD4rrAEFnoIYyvDXt_RceSTGu_QuXl1qaRgrefhMuvE1nnqnmokNc7rISA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><img id="id_e38f_cce1_a689_2aca" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-wMUJ8LdNyD3ogiLWFDLMlVv5WqgbwTIg4st2bExkPJL8fxmqAx1Q8Ze_JEOQXah01g_5xpVxeSwnPJYHiSGKp3sZlNQw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>Putting together his vending machine Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-72322730846564933852023-07-10T21:33:00.001-04:002023-07-10T21:34:11.999-04:00Carnival Time! If you know Wyatt, he loves carnival games and he’s good at them too! We have a few gigantic stuffed animals and many other smaller ones that he won over the years. So his sister is away at camp this week and he gets to pick what we do each day! So when he said he wanted to go to a carnival I jumped at it, not because I wanted to waste my money, because he wanted to leave the house and do something! He has been slowly progressing but tends to stay in his comfort zone at home. Lately, we have been pushing walking independently. We have been doing a lot of negotiating and compromising! We are still dealing with stomach issues so he’s eating very little. Otherwise, Wyatt is going to PT almost everyday. His bandages are off and his incisions are healing. All pain meds are weaned off and he takes Tylenol and Ibuprofen PRN rather than around the clock. Around here, we celebrate the little things. <img id="id_37ad_e504_1189_e988" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-woPsM4FqdFgKF8A9k0QYTvCtfzIjBsXAVzmwZlDFvM5GW6NF5-rAwDLXJvbCsuYb5taofxhRS6ifSFONKyuV67noDI" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_9ca7_45ca_ea1c_a972" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xYHIIGSlh2Apwt6xR9P-YRK_2gQsK9-XspF8AERchHJx-6YiJHznv5UvvgT8o4ht8BnVSSvN5Jq8CdfTEOgW7Qa_oU" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_b5a3_807c_e897_6942" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-xBTwx5PSrkvm-weMdyfWOmat-pMFj6LeDYhjtwfo8XI9SgNcCg7syYcBCFB2WZbjc7dL-zyZ5opguCchXqaRvueMjR" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_faa_a773_1502_3c85" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yPM_-9Z0d9uSc5RBUytOP1HMS5CZMTXxGwcVigGs2LYs1QgYEVWWKgxPyQpiS3Y8HTIROK-NK1ygXfdiYvKYUTmRSj7Q" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6076_de4_7012_330c" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-zXLvjv8CF_WE6XC7x2gLBX0wmTtVpPT8XrxzFqnLephnvTF2Rs3l-J4m_JCmrUvwnB2zYJs_-Io19BrDi6NqFvI4hHzw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><br><img id="id_df4b_c357_35f0_8316" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AITFw-yn_slsEbDESMWh6x7j2DQHjHJUNRp5m7mIrXroq1yKkfD178ASNxC8GUye_SN__s4yEMScSw96UnjEiMQ1U2NkDSbtLQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>I look at this pic often to keep my spirits up and remind myself that this is all for the better and his quality of life will be so much better to go from almost 90 degrees to practically straight. Since being home, Wyatt had visits from high school friends, middle school friends, family and family friends. He has received the most heartfelt cards from people he knows and from people he does not know. Many many thanks. Wyatt will be writing thank you notes, but in the meantime, please accept our heartfelt thanks for all the visits, cards, and gifts. It’s greatly appreciated. <div><br></div><div>July 6th will be month since the spinal fusion surgery. Wyatt has been going to physical therapy 3 times a week and occupational therapy 2 times a week. His narcotics and gabapentin have been weaned down to zero so he is just taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Wyatt has good days and bad days. When he eats, his stomach hurts so he refrains from eating a lot. Consequently, he lost 4 lbs. Sometimes he gets dizzy and sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes his pain is greater than 3 (he is always in some kind of pain) and sometimes not. We are told this is all part of the long healing process and just be patient. The incision on his belly hurts the most which is from the shunt surgery. He isn’t walking independently yet- using a walker, wheelchair or another person. So while we are trying to be as normal as possible, it’s really not. I keep reminding Wyatt- slow and steady wins the race. </div><div><br></div><div>I allowed him to sit around and do whatever he likes for a month. Now it’s time to begin getting into a routine besides medical stuff- practicing drums, summer reading, driver’s ed and just playing, having fun. I say all this- but it’s hard when he doesn’t feel his best but we will try. On another note, Wyatt has always been about 4 inches shorter than his sister, Chloe. Now they are about the same height! </div><div><br></div><div>Wyatt has a small vending company. He owns a few gumball and candy machines and has placed them at local businesses. He is always looking for new locations if you have any suggestions (my shameless plug) but vending and collecting things such as coins, Funko, Yu Gi Oh and other things are his passions. He has business cards and funds his business completely on his own. He watches many many You Tubes on vending and is very savvy with claw machines and coin pushers. So he asked to go to out local mall to play the coin pusher. I obliged because he practices walking and standing without realizing it. Overall he is progressing in the right direction and we are very very proud. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_fb58_bfeb_52a6_3af4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rH8kGyHbYzWrvayYBUZjpz-G9_8_nRUt3GGdnWryQeSOQPZI7vMzPBfWfsv3-KVaK52qvbSEaV9q1m-9-8d3kLuzhY" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>Swimming for the first time! He is going to PT, we are weaning down meds, and he is sleeping better. He still requires some oxygen at night and needs assistance walking. He also feels less pain reclined in a chair. The healing process is about a year long, but we are focused on PT and nutrition to get him ready for sophomore year by August 30th. <div><br></div><div>Today Wyatt had a visit by his school counselor Mrs. Fitzsimmons, who has been a constant support helping Wyatt prepare for surgery and checking in along the way. Our home is not close to Wyatt’s high school- about 45 min away, so her visit was very special! </div><div><br></div><div>My friend Laura made us dinner and delivered to us driving over an hour away. My friend Whitney made a special visit and Wyatt’s buddies checking in make his healing time so much better! ❤️❤️. My friends, coworkers, and family have been a constant support. Times like this, you are reminded of all your blessings in life. </div><div><br></div><div>Another celebration, Wyatt’s Pop Pop who also had back surgery at the same time and same hospital came home today after 20 days in hospital/rehab. Tonight we celebrated Father’s Day and his 75th Birthday! </div><div><br></div><div>We are also starting to cross things off Chloe’s summer fun list. She’s been a trooper through all this- so independent, doing everything on her own and by herself. So we went cherry picking, and attended a rodeo! </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_dcac_6760_14c5_1f54" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81oysBUsHLYq3QH8mZY-6Zu7aHPkDDrTbmZkjV8GE4oyQzQ1jEi106rQImAlXqh3LeUDkM-doo8bfQnOfZVoOwnb7GhDVQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_20aa_1e3d_694c_b16a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81raUtTKCRTlmrab0aiEvqg_LLtggcs12-OoSmVGMK8guh7Xxu1VVCZfT4PIeK75p2xTfpI05pQ4_ZbIra4OfTXDj_z8pQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_263b_eb32_ccaf_45c9" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qn6MHDBTp3h3o9hRckCptmANWZ9gvzNzwhe39-S9eeRu-1qyx5lnIXiSEOsNGQTT7ea7RQ9KJUKAPntP2FrM5Jrw-D2A" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_3829_e20f_c439_2bdf" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81o9dEqmWzte6qZgcnjsCXLON5VkHmd6pzd18txk-i2BX5eeRpYIlQqdNw2gadTFchyA6zOJ5clOr7xhAhqnDC2m6CEzAg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_df09_6c0c_7275_9026" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pIuO3Ro4xyRWz_TqsGA9QlcSutyLLRaIZCMdbSnOyISAUYx7lq9ifnXii1EHB9mmtQl9cz98AknBW1158mfPe2uyRXCw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-84886849983331444542023-06-17T17:02:00.001-04:002023-06-17T17:02:11.782-04:00Breaking out of the house! Thanks to the Lions Club in Manchester for loaning Wyatt a wheelchair so we can breakout and go on adventures!!! Since he can only walk short distances with a walker, this comes in handy! Today’s goal was to get some vitamin D in a walk. <img id="id_ba81_2bdd_15a5_c617" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pfVSW_ovI8CS4dFUHNmYq-cGzAXKDhohHJdif2jXDvgr6jBEuavAt31x3HplxLLfQeDsvZZkO0LyDPAX65zYwNljZ_6A" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_b99b_926a_30d0_50bc" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qWUhJk1simz9yZ6-wlkpCEjh3YnpPJi4r6VlNwwBhBCoyBqbDxXogYX5RV3YD-rYcYayatxvJm2vDskWoMw7KQAYNlIA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><br>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-26972592196049628812023-06-16T20:36:00.001-04:002023-06-16T21:18:42.316-04:00Medicine for the SoulWyatt enjoyed a visit from his friends today. Friends that have been by his side since fourth grade and have the kind of friendship that will last forever no matter how much time passes. It was a busy day! Wyatt also enjoyed a visit from cousins Tim and Tyler. Tyler has been a constant supporter of Wyatt since the beginning of his hospital stay. It was a good day! <div><br><img id="id_c98e_32c9_1f1c_dfb5" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81oiFY1aoc_koAkwKG3A2FcgaNTWiKeTmOcTO8x8WNCct25_21Q65DciYHrMutq-qYLMjJYuplrEcQvTY96frtD2sg6tqQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6e04_9b00_6b85_5223" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81oZqgU-chCW2wy4JmuV_4Mc5vLwlYFAc_BF8OHp2jXx0E4yA5FNY61le6vJ7i0wXGPJJXNXo2KgrBpKRRnGt00ZmtfYBw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><br><img id="id_1984_6b81_4e2d_5f3e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qC-uz0q5LqjcjlnaaH-dcfTlGkZ4Pi46uSvpioEVVsMoxKF640I1NVRFhou3u1odLWUhoz0rje3Bzlfx38vo6nvI86EA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><img id="id_5886_b546_d703_64d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81o56HF8sU7nhmpShpVYxgd2c9jyh_0mrnx_uO01bT2xM6-XGyq65mP4P-EG2stNYT12woZZvxRTvh_taFfxM52I0_aoBQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-80093883813775444302023-06-15T17:32:00.001-04:002023-06-15T17:32:46.915-04:00He’s back!Last night we ordered Chinese food and had family movie night. It was so nice to do a normal activity. He had a nice uninterrupted sleep last night. His o2 dipped at 2 am so we put him on oxygen for a little bit and he was good to go. His blood pressure has been normal and he is less dizzy. Starting today, we are making sure Wyatt’s diet is rich in protein and iron rich foods. He’s taking vitamins and we are making sure he is getting the rest he needs balanced with activity. We had the outpatient PT consult today and will be starting next week going 3X per week until school starts. Walking is the most important activity for healing. Tonight we are making dinner for his grandparents. <div><br></div><div>His favorite flavor- Coffee ice cream!</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_6aac_d781_102e_3600" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rQZYoSaq-kjvlOSutkhShesc5_iVzicp5cM3u8YLYdY2633uD0YIt-fqT6Vv-i6c5Y-XxbXs-IUHY44Hf_RJRxamKS" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>Doing what teenagers do<br><img id="id_d928_ae94_3ca0_7d42" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qIh0ycmw8pcONwhBVFfOfAMynZSBhK4NZuOOmkG_SOuCZ-MZQQh9V9sXuOk80w0hA-uuhZCkwIEJ3TrE-4J1RDjO4Rdw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6736_f524_d9d8_1e37" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81q9-cPAUGK_h5od1aZjyExTHL-bRzB5I4OOTJdeoo2ISRQL5JZICYVuptL0FEaEFkMN6jfl5sQhBYEKIEuPv7ljZ_4hTA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-26186336632345682202023-06-14T18:40:00.001-04:002023-06-14T18:40:12.734-04:00Peace Out Hopkins ✌️ Hopkins served us well but it’s time to go home, heal, get stronger and enjoy this summer!! 🏖️ 20 days, <div>3 surgeries = one tough teenager! </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_dc3_2d1a_a6f8_648b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qNI5xiId7zkvgDP8v9AFk4gUytqQq5APhhHC558bVhnYPxX0TTHjqSVVNmVghjRE0tWGulydLtzDEkXbNoCUZaT6f3ug" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Wyatt with his awesome nurse Bella<br><img id="id_d13c_9f1_f77e_5aac" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pbU7vIkcYXmBcIkCTEUCDqQPaYp-_SnZQd10T3moYHlVIdt6Z_zNCHWkEjwBodoYGTGfyWG3_BWz5RBtIfSNHwG_fHdg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Surgery #1- Halo- 7 screws drilled in his skull with 30 pounds of weights<br><img id="id_7317_9d4a_7ae6_2d71" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rsSC_OWM_uT1h_zuUQTuJNgmx5fYXYNCrurejXxT3Ij-3ZSYRSN3OZJxoQ2Yylq72dWQLhg-rHk525zqzOw04flxTC" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_88c7_fa70_5342_efd8" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81r9CsHmjYA9jcOPRlXu1UZtE0nhKAOvSR9i2q_61u6OkgdalrrFYsSYgNZLkkBWrOewE66pzZIQDrh3njPN7NnaexsM0g" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Surgery #2- Spinal Fusion 6 hours<br><img id="id_28db_7882_b369_2f79" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81r3UR82pR4IieGmRPbr7D3E1_dCtxRKCjxVLI_QPrAjmY3xbCLXULXectI6GuKr-zXrnDFPtS9c0n6RzETRtWqR_bas" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_fd7a_a3f_ba97_5961" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81oOMEQOQcZQDaQwRkq-6NoyW05ZYM5gDK0F1H7qXojlxbdGIym5cj3g6mR3nUzWqTx_6l9HPYOXJfo0hYdRPXqN_Zdaqw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Surgery #3- Shunt tubing replacement through the head and abdomen. </div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-46743491108566182952023-06-14T13:26:00.001-04:002023-06-14T13:31:05.789-04:00This View❤️Last night to cap off a semi-stressful day, I just soaked in this beautiful view. It was peaceful and hopefully a sign of good things to come… stay tuned. This morning he had three surgical teams visit for rounds, hospital pediatricians visit, who have been wonderful in helping to look at the whole child, like ordering extra fluids, breathing treatments and numbing cream. He had a brain MRI and X-ray, OT, PT, and RT. All scans are normal and made progress in therapies. Good things to come!!!! Stay tuned🎉🎉🎉🎉 🤞 <div><br><div><img id="id_27cb_455e_13e5_bb4b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81o2JI7FjbGuih6KwHchunxuW49q86apop1662NcpT6QvLuNO3RF8k6QsPR_15iLsW5fvhZmqk7xJUMLfJ9zHYK-XplC" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Our view<br><img id="id_f52a_c3d1_fce5_4c01" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81ry45EYo-lPFLULA5hzW24CHSKh_WU-WIFc_5h3enwFeBSSU1BCXYRtuNpou68JgCNIbwF20OLpW-SfWT3deUdjV2ykCQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_5ac3_702f_7cae_6f30" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rPF_GdzuuAcP2fN6yP-BFYWpPyR6XVK88XdaidP3idh95v5cIgQcH3lR0Hl3CdBfwpWwTNL4lg4ZNnddaP4lQ2mT_i" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><img id="id_30db_9d45_a1f6_f898" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pO-RrOy04o0rX_51AYcn8qMzI8Cg-Yyt81YTCFt5NAPyD0X0JB90XJk-ik_9VN8ZDsN-GSdCyKNvFp_TsRbZ3lIzbEBA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_55ac_31db_5597_eaa2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pyw0MGUt7e6bWXuMf4on7bi0Rzq-n863rEJOjQt_xRNAPDlEqMteSYbZN2OoiOjtr1JEHLo7ZEaYGa9XIqodhHIZVkow" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Happy 7th Adopt-a-versey Lola Grace 🐶 We rescued Lola this day 7 years ago! <br><img id="id_b288_869f_e889_5a30" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rpuIst0rvMxPBrHhvNZZcfD3OnaqD1pAl1xkFXx3ToIv9gIOCRu_j4To3GujhAxhvKdTxNyf1gbzsx13V0cynqkPmheg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_e0ba_2dc6_1fbc_5553" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81q0GMPMfZfxRCGUrUQYNKVv2Elfq-zF2lH9Yqlj52VSsPN9ThKIWVzTzwYJT6gfVYjYTH6YylJTT-YmKFHY9sZ_LwhVug" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_5453_4971_aba8_28b6" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pbE8VKmlkjO2sgyRpJrz7SaGZ43M1LsrQaMHZSv6dm0ZraxdvMvEU6JOjaZ573OQB9hPDT_eKzbramib5JRr6gaWLz" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_6c73_3b45_7c2c_392e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qBfOX-_LztmyUSKG1g4DOGCm4iVEATeVyJcTxAcStDpcaW-JfJkfO09ah-xK1ljwmbt-hsHxw3lRSpPmgcGEkaoTBj" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>This day in 2021 was our first day in St. Pete for Wyatt’s reherniation surgery with Dr. Kay’s and Dr. Chandler. Wyatt is in recovery and we are still waiting to see him, however his neurosurgeon, Dr. Robinson just came out to share that the procedure was successful. The general surgeon was called in during surgery to make incisions through his belly to pull the old tubing out and pull the new tubing through. They tested the shunt and it operates just fine. <div><br></div><div>I didn’t think he needed a shunt anymore, all his brain scans are normal. When I discussed this with the neurosurgeon, she shared that since it was placed when he was an infant, your brain relies on it. It’s like part of this brain. Fascinating to me. </div><div><br></div><div> What is also fascinating is how incredible these surgeons are. They are so devoted to their profession. Every morning, around 6 am- Dr. Sponceller from Ortho and Dr. Robinson from Neurosurg visit Wyatt. It’s 7pm now and I have seen both come in the surgery waiting room and Dr. Robinson has another surgery after Wyatt this evening. It’s a gift to see that dedication. Another observation during my hours of sitting and waiting is the diversity of people- from different socioeconomic levels, different parts of the world and different religions all coming together for the same purpose- quality healthcare. It warms my heart ❤️ </div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-37314253327741161192023-06-13T13:33:00.001-04:002023-06-13T15:26:39.540-04:00Thank You❤️❤️Wyatt is projected to go down to pre op around 2:00pm today for his shunt procedure so we are all just hanging out in his hospital room today catching up on the outpouring of prayers and support. I share with Wyatt all the correspondence- comments, notes, phone calls, texts, messages, etc…. to keep his spirits up and for him to know how many people are behind him. He has only been at his high school for one school year, but the connections he made and the support means a lot to Wyatt. I share it all and he is all smiles🙂 He just opened a handwritten note from Brother Charles, his German teacher sharing that he had his entire German class praying for him and that he’s on his prayer list. His school counselor, Bethany has been one of his biggest cheerleaders preparing him mentally for a long stay in the hospital and checking in on his progress. His school nurse Cindy, his Biology teacher Mrs. Robertson texts frequently checking in on him and so many others- Mentor, Mr. Wellein, his Algebra teacher Mr. Firoavante, golf coach- Mr. Forrrster, and CHC Band, Admin, classmates, and friends. Probably more than I mentioned. In just one school year, we have felt the love and support. Calvert Hall is a special place. ❤️ <div><br></div><div>In addition, Wyatt’s friends have been keeping in touch, his Scout mates, Lifeteen, our friends, co-workers, and family. My close friends have been incredible. Thank you all- our hearts are full❤️❤️❤️. This isn’t my first rodeo and maintaining a healthy state of mind for Wyatt is equally important as his physical wellbeing. Just reading this blog- caring and praying for him means the world. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️.</div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-83030912502445539572023-06-12T20:39:00.001-04:002023-06-12T20:39:46.670-04:00Let’s throw a curve ball and have brain surgery Well today was very busy. Wyatt had his scoliosis x ray series and had to stand independently holding a bar for it. Then he had the shunt series where dye was injected by a needle into his shunt and a series of pictures were taken over 90 minutes. This was so painful for Wyatt because he had to lay on a stiff board for so long. He was nervous about the needle in his head, however he was positive the entire time. He truly was brave and tolerated excruciating pain. I had to hold back my tears because he was being so strong mentally and physically. When we returned, the Physical Therapist was waiting for him to work him hard- walking and climbing steps. The entire day was mentally draining. This evening we learned that the shunt is not operational anymore and that the dye traveled to his abdomen- meaning that scar tissue formed a “tube” around the tube. When the tube disconnected, the scar tissue remained. This is not good because the scar tissue could cause a blockage. Therefore, Wyatt is an add on to the neurosurgery schedule for tomorrow for shunt revision and a placement of a tube, pushing discharge back from tomorrow until Wednesday or Thursday. This boy is the definition of perseverance, positivity, and staying focus doing hard, scary things. He is an inspiration to me and adds a perspective to how I handle situations and interact with people. I can’t imagine going through a very complicated painful back surgery and excited to come home then hearing the news that neurosurgery will be operating on him tomorrow. <div><br></div><div><img id="id_4e21_e9cd_67c6_9e6b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81rP4iEwgc__qXAaUYknIU9E7Bk0l-xBFbVzqaQSLlSiVbrpknmhQHcv0ck0EVPqGrf1lDUpqwstoorcBzwfpI-9vbv3Gw" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Conquering steps!!!<br><img id="id_b31e_72f2_bf7a_8bf6" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qFLHfaaHiGg0DAbE442jrgyThuPE9S-HzWc-T9e8T2CFbjnjcsNDItf4Q1KipLOLJwz8ZDXgzT-sThMeHZ1f4fFlxB2g" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>90 minutes on his back in this machine after getting a needle in his head. <br><img id="id_5244_2053_f439_4eb4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qNqml88SFPEzrGQwbeyx9JkFKNkqivqVSzgKKD75uCu9gv709i6C9yBZC6TvF_jQOK2ltaMhnljw1vzXF7fITyrFo8" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_59c9_4222_704a_e6a1" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pn1_eo59iIPvM0VBYrTKcrDFA7rs_LNWhd450PCty7EIbm8e_RC_VXrHCQI0msdBdVHuatyBSNM9qMbMw5CMF8GEjE" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_687c_5eee_99cd_cd55" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81qA5ZD6VBpnmnqxqR8njxflV6ty9YBUW6P8DFdZBIBrtHGw20hGrCTGyU3wJwHLRuKXcUYbiHSmSW2I9gHVvFZQhQmbIQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>New room and new view!<br><img id="id_bb64_699_592a_829b" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81pJfsXR_SW2QR2L05ta5rlK08MXYw--u9Tm_5f7GLDKnYfayVQxM7vCQHEo5k1PKKpOvYIKHGrz01pQsUVRnz73ejDJLg" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br>Our new view- the Inner Harbor</div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576578563669049446.post-37037034148152109532023-06-11T20:08:00.001-04:002023-06-11T20:12:14.383-04:00Slow and Steady wins the raceWyatt is progressing, however we have a couple hurdles to go through first before coming home. When he stands and walks, he gets dizzy. All his stats are good, except his blood pressure is a little lower while walking. This could be the culprit but it’s not alarmingly low. He also gets very winded and can walk about 50 feet with assistance at a time. Today- about 175 feet total. Secondly, besides being on the Ortho team, neurosurgery is also following him. On Monday or Tuesday, he will be getting dye injected in his shunt to test the function and if it’s actually needed. The results of that test will determine if a surgery is needed to reconnect the tube. <div><br></div><div>Yesterday we had a visit from Wyatt’s very first CDH friend- Jack and his Mom and sister. They drove from northern VA to hang out with us. Vicki was my CDH mentor in 2007 since Jack was born in August and Wyatt in October. They had the same surgeons- Dr. Abdullah and Dr. Chandler and we kept in touch ever since! We have attended many ECMO Christmas parties together at Hopkins. We are so blessed to have them in our lives. </div><div><br></div><div>Jack and Fam! </div><div><img id="id_c41f_db01_5517_289e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81q7jcX5K2w_23i4JD5BFmY7_LFIH9_5pOIRqBsUtEVf0sHnaIpDznnl8uBPum-qF917_dHKaxyPwMEuw2E1BoHyVwhA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_1c4c_a31_fc1b_e030" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81o2QHhEDzbe_H4VZnXyxoh6ZD3Hk00D_XSiIomI54tXAokieCJ2mMxfVGqz5uOdgo07q_CM3nmk71UXKBKjCvtw2nJSfQ" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br>Wyatt’s incision healing nicely</div><div><img id="id_8082_7bc3_dd46_96ee" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/drive-viewer/AFGJ81oYSmWaPx2K3fPCjtqSPBvaHmWAgGDKVvP3YvhJWcbMQlmNCBru2VBWKzGDgCO4tcy8zeRThBSmfZFMybiKwaDodL1y" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br><br><br></div>Ginahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786147882900140854noreply@blogger.com0
