Wyatt is alert and happy today and back to his old self of pulling off his socks, pulse ox probe, shaking his rattle, shaking his head no, and dropping things. It's so refreshing to seem him like this. We have not had to press the pain button all day! The ng tube was removed, he is down to 1/4 liter of oxygen and stating 100 percent. The chest tube is still in, but is clamped. His most recent chest x-ray shows no sign of more fluid accumulating which is good news. He is still very congested and has some secretions so he needs to be deep suctioned every now and then. G-tube feeds were started at 2pm of 5ml of pedilyte and it will gradually increase over time. Later tonight we will be moving to the IMC section of floor 6. Currently we are in the PICU on the 7th floor. It's so important to me that Wyatt is close to a nurse since the probability of him aspirating is increased because of the vocal cord persis which is why I like the IMC and PICU. So far (knock on wood) he is making a speedy recovery. I don't want to rush things and would rather take things slow. I have learned that Wyatt does not like sudden changes. So far I am very happy the way things are going.
I am a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) baby. My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.

So glad to see/read that things are on the mend and that the "old" Wyatt is back...I don't think he liked the idea of you going back to work at the end of summer!

Wyatt is a super baby! I can't believe how great he looks so soon! We're thrilled for you all! Better watch that he doesn't get up and walk out of Hopkins!
Keep up the excellent work Wyatt!

Wow, what a fighter little Wyatt is. I just sat down to catch up on him and was so suprised to see that he had such an eventful Labor Day weekend planned for the family. Back to pulling on his feet and smiling..so glad to see. We will continue to pray for Wyatt and his recovery after this surgery. Take Care, Stacy
