My father was born in Italy and came over on the boat with my grandmother and grandfather in 1951 when he was three years old. They were looking for a better life in America. My grandparents worked very hard in factories, saved their money, and lived within their means. My grandmother left behind in Italy her three sisters, parents, and extended family, likewise with my grandfather. I was able to travel to Italy with my family when I was 10 years old and again just four years ago. My cousin, Arianna who is an adorable 14 year girl passed away from brain cancer this week. She always had a good attitude and was fairly healthy until the final days. She is the sweetest, happiest, person and we all love her very much. She will be missed. To our family in Italy, we are thinking of you and love you.
I am a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) baby. My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.
