Hopkins transport came to Mt.Washington about 2pm yesterday to take him back to Hopkins because he had a fever, high heart rate, and high respiratory rate and required additional oxygen from 1/8 liter to half liter. We arrived in the Pediatric ER at Hopkins and remained there until a little after 9pm. After a couple x-rays, blood work, and urine tests, it was decided that Wyatt could either have an urinary track infection or aspiration pneumonia. We met with the pulmonaligist and it was determined that he should be treated for aspiration pneumonia. I don't think the pneumonia is clearly evident on the x-ray... I have to talk to a doctor today. Since Wyatt spits up a lot, he swallows some of it and I think it aspirates into his lungs. We moved from the ER to the Intermediate Care on the 6th floor. The IMC section is a large room with about 6 beds and a few nurses. The nurses do not leave the room which I feel so good about since Wyatt's stats are not as stable and he could aspirate. Also, his cry is so soft, he is difficult to hear. When I called this morning, his 02 moved to 1/2 liter to 1/4 liter and his heart rate and respiratory rate seem to stay within his baseline with a little fluctuations. Wyatt will have to be on IV antibiotics for 5 days and then we will either go back to Mt.Wash or go home from Hopkins... keep your prayers coming. Besides everything going on with him, he seemed comfortable all day and remained wide awake, just looking around at the new environment and people.
When Wyatt was born I learned a lesson... I was thinking that we would definitely have the best scenario by avoiding ECMO. Wyatt would get an operation and he would be home in a month. Well I was wrong! Wyatt went on ECMO and we encountered many hurdles along the way. Even though Wyatt is a miracle and we had a good outcome, I changed my thinking to keep an open mind and that anything could happen. When I heard Wyatt was coming home, I jumped back to my old ways and thinking and the banner was on our lawn, balloons on the mailbox, and every thing was all set! I have learned my lesson again... I have to keep an open mind and celebrate Wyatt's homecoming when he is ready to come home. Thank you for all your support. The title of the blog today was a quote that I heard from several doctors last night..."Wyatt is a celebrity around here!" I just think that Wyatt wanted to find out what the Pediatric ER was like... it's the only area we have not explored yet.

Oh, how disappointing. I'm so sorry for the delay. I'm glad Wyatt is doing well and recovering steadily. He'll see those balloons, his beautiful home, and meet his sister soon. Call if you need anything!
