I am a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) baby. My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.

Out of surgery... a success!!
Dr. Columbani just came out to talk with us and Wyatt's surgery was a success! He is still in the OR, but they found another hole... as Wyatt grows, the patch does not grow with him so another hole was created. They decided to use the gortex patch instead of the Alloderm. They sewed it to the pre-existing patch and his chest wall. We heard a lot of his intestine was in his chest... about a fist full, the small intestine as well as the large. His surgeon said that Wyatt should be able to breath much better now... maybe not even requiring oxygen or even very little. With a fist full of intestine in his chest he was stating 99-100% on 1/4 liter. The same incision that was made from Dr. Abdullah from his previous repair was used for this surgery so there will be no new scars. He will soon be wheeled down the hall to the PICU. We are just waiting now...

Keep the good news coming!
Love,

I agree with the previous comment...keep that good news comin'!
I will pray that he gets off oxygen real soon. What a tough guy to have so many organs herniated and not even complain!
Vic
Gina,
Thanks for being so good about keeping us updated. We're all praying for that precious little guy and his wonderful family.
I bet he doesn't need any oxygen for long if he could breathe with all of those intestines in the way.
Love,
Paula
So glad to hear the surgery was a success. It sounds like maybe this will give him a bit more comfort, which is great. We think of you often!
