I am a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) baby. My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.

Just talked to the surgeon...
Wyatt's surgery was a success. Only one incision was made and he found part of the bowel was in the chest looping and kinking. They caught it just in time... if we were to wait, I was told that part of the intestine would "die" and no longer work. Well, we thought Dr. Lau was joking but he actually was not. He was creative when making the patch.. he used wire, gortex, and alloderm... plus Wyatt's 3 patches. He said he used everything and it was a "very fancy patch!" Well... I hope this very fancy patch stops everything that does not belong in his chest. We are just waiting now for him to come out of the OR. Dr. Lau said that Wyatt will sleep for the rest of the night and they may extubate him tomorrow. So off to the PICU we go!

Wyatt finally caught a break. That does sound like one very fancy patch! Now that I know Wyatt is doing well I am off to bed. Hope you all manage to get some rest.
That is fantastic if they can extubate tomorrow already!

So glad to hear the Wyatt came out of surgery with a fancy new patch, I am sure that it will be one-of-a-kind! We will be sending positive thoughts for an easy extubation tomorrow!

Yay Wyatt! What a trooper...sounds like a family trait. So glad you caught it in time...mommy must have awesome instincts when Wyatt lets her know something is just not right.

Wow. Wyatt, and his family, never cease to amaze me! Hope he continues to rest peacefully. Let us know if we can do anything to help. We're free tomorrow!
