I am a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) baby. My diaphragm developed with a hole in it and my organs were misplaced in my chest cavity. The organs pushed on my lungs, causing one lung to be very small. I was born on October 9, 2007 at Johns Hopkins. Now it is three years later: I am saying a bunch of words, I still receive foods through a g-tube and am on oxygen while I sleep. I can't walk yet, but believe I can out scoot anyone! Here is the story of my amazing and patient recovery.

CDH Parent's Group here we come!!!!!
Today I drove to Hopkins, not to visit Wyatt in the hospital, not for a doctor's appointment, but for a meeting that Vicki Jensen (Jack's mom) arranged with Wyatt and Jack's surgeon, Dr. A, Dr. B (the director of maternal fetal medicine, Ginny a genetic counselor, and Andrew's mom Tracey. Drum roll please.... We are forming a CDH Parent's Group with complete support from Hopkins with the hope to expand to all of Maryland to support Children's Hospital in DC as well. Who would of ever imagine that I was lucky enough to meet other moms with similar, but different experiences and earn the respect of Hopkin's doctors to take time out of their busy schedule to meet with us and support us. The past year has changed my life and I am eager to "give back" to the CDH community and hospital that changed our lives. Click here to read Vicki's account of the day. By the way... Jack is cute as ever and was so adorable through the meeting. Wyatt did not attend the meeting and was happy at home playing on his ice cream truck which he moves backwards across the room with his feet! Tomorrow Benji is taking him to his hearing test while I go to work! This time last year, was very different to this time this year... I returned to work after giving birth to Wyatt, Wyatt was rushed back to the PICU at Hopkins from Mt. Wash, and it was determined that he needed a shunt and a g-tube. oh.. and Chloe got RSV this time last year! The year started off bumpy... but the meeting today helped me realized how far we have come! Driving into the parking garage for a good thing was a great feeling!

Gina, you are one truly amazing woman. Despite all that you have been through and all you have to deal with and take care of for yourself, you are still looking for a way to help others!!
PatV.
Just from reading the blogs from the CDH moms I can see that all of you are a great support for each other and a wonderful source of information. You help each other thru the hard times and share the joy of the healthy times. Gina and Vicky congrats on your determination to help others with CDH. Moms of CDH babies...keep sharing your stories. You have no idea how many other moms you are helping.
Gina! That is so great! You have been such an inspiration. There are a lot of people out there who could certainly use a dose of your optimism!
I think what you and Vic are doing is absolutely amazing! John Hopkins is blessed to have two amazing CDH moms!
If there is ever anything we can do to help just let us know!
